Goals for next semester
My internship at Cisco wraps up next week, which means summer is officially winding down. Before the fall semester swallows me whole, I want to write down what I’m actually aiming at — partly because saying goals out loud makes them harder to quietly abandon, and partly because this site needed a first real blog post.
Get the theory under the tools
This fall I’m taking Statistical Theory, Numerical Methods, and Advanced Linear Algebra. There’s a theme there. A summer of building risk models and classifiers taught me that I can use a lot of methods whose foundations I only half-understand — and the half I’m missing is usually the part that tells you when the method will quietly fail. I want the theory to catch up to the toolkit.
Move the research forward
I spent part of this summer on a research project in machine learning and quantitative finance, and my goal for the fall is to push it to something worth sharing publicly. More here when it’s ready for the public domain.
Figure out summer 2027
Recruiting season starts almost immediately, and I’m looking for internships in quantitative research and data science. The goal is to land somewhere that uses the math and research, not just the Python.
Row faster
Fall training starts when classes do. Twenty hours a week in a boat is a strange complement to proof-based math courses, but I’ve found each one makes me better at the other. Consistency is the whole sport.
